Stephen Bickel

Dr. Stephen R. Bickel is an internal-medicine physician and public-health leader. A graduate of Brown University, he earned his medical degree from Rush Medical College, followed by an MBA and MPH from UCLA, reflecting a lifelong dedication to understanding both the human and structural forces that shape health. For many years, Dr. Bickel served as Medical Director of county health departments in Florida, overseeing HIV care, chronic-disease management, and community-health programs for some of the state’s most vulnerable residents. He now makes his home in Memphis and is married to philanthropist and business leader Gayle S. Rose, who is a member of the advisory board for the Institute for Public Service Reporting.
